The acronym for BEST is - Boosting Engineering Science and Technology. The program is national with local competitions in 18 states. It is a non-profit organization. The mission is to inspire students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. BEST fosters knowledge, teamwork, and communication. Every year, student teams are tasked with building a robot to compete against other schools in that year's challenge. All challenges are based on a educational model. The competition is high-spirited and a sports-like environment with heavy rules of good sportsmanship. The robots are driven by students and are allowed to have a spotter down on the field with them. They compete against the challenges of the game. All robots try to gain the most points in the game to win. The theme for the yearly competition is announced around early August to mid-September. The teams competing are given eight weeks to design and build their own unique robot.
